Biography

Niveen AbiGhannam is an Assistant Professor in the Chandra Family Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at The University of Texas at Austin. She is a researcher in science communication, focusing on strategic and inclusive communication as well as the factors that drive or hinder public engagement in STEM behaviors. Her research examines the identities of publicly engaged scientists and engineers, exploring the meanings associated with their engagement experiences. In the classroom, Dr. AbiGhannam has taught Engineering Communication at UT since 2015, where her teaching goals include helping student engineers develop strategic communication skills that enable them to convey technical knowledge to both expert and non-expert audiences in a mindful and inclusive manner. She holds a Ph.D. in Science Communication from the University of Texas at Austin, and prior to her doctorate, she earned a Master of Science in Environmental Policy and a Bachelor of Science in Biology from the American University of Beirut.
