Biography

Nizar Bahlis is an Associate Professor in the Cumming School of Medicine at the University of Calgary, focusing on Hematology and Bone Marrow Transplantation. He earned his MD from Saint Joseph University in 1995 and completed his residency in Internal Medicine at the State University of New York, Syracuse, followed by a Hematology-Oncology fellowship at the University of Miami, Florida. Bahlis also completed a postdoctoral fellowship in cancer biology at the University of Miami under the mentorship of Dr. Lawrence Boise. His research examines plasma cell dyscrasia, with a particular focus on multiple myeloma genomics and novel therapeutic developments. He has received numerous research grants and awards from prestigious organizations such as the ASCO, Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation, and National Institute of Health. Bahlis's work has been published in several peer-reviewed journals, including the New England Journal of Medicine and Blood. He also serves on the editorial board of journals and review panels for funding agencies. Bahlis is an active member of the American Society of Hematology and the International Myeloma Society.
