Biography

Nneka Ibekwe-Okafor is an Assistant Professor in the Department of African and African Diaspora Studies at the University of Texas at Austin, with courtesy appointments in Early Childhood Education and Psychology. Her interdisciplinary research examines how ecological systems, including family resources, early learning environments, and community conditions, shape the developmental experiences of Black children from birth through early elementary school. Dr. Ibekwe-Okafor focuses on the everyday practices in policy-relevant contexts that support or constrain children's academic and social-emotional well-being, fostering optimal development through family and community engagement.
