Dr. Noa Rickey

Biography

Noa Rickey is a graduate student at the University of Wisconsin–Madison's School of Human Ecology, specializing in Design Studies. They identify as queer and are a self-taught fiber artist and educator. Raised in the Twin Cities in a family of artists, Noa developed a deep appreciation for crafts from a young age. They initially studied acting at New York University's Tisch School of the Arts, which sparked a transition into visual art practice. After moving back to Minnesota, Noa began teaching themselves embroidery as a way to connect with their late mother, who was a costume designer and painter. This journey led them to further develop their passion for fiber arts, where they skillfully incorporate their textile skills into their visual artwork. Noa's unique creations transform the wearers into living art, showcasing their love for the medium and their heritage in crafting.
