Dr. Noam Maitless

Biography

Noam Maitless is an award-winning architect and urbanist, renowned for delivering landmark projects globally, with a focus on mixed-use precincts, cultural civic design, and sports entertainment districts. His work emphasizes the integration of visionary place-making strategies with economic logic and environmental resilience to create lasting sustainable change in communities, cities, and regions. He has engaged with complex drivers that shape modern experiences through both theoretical rigor and professional expertise. Notably, he led the creation of culturally significant works, including the historic redevelopment of downtown Las Vegas, Nevada, and the pioneering aerotropolis regional plan for Ekurhuleni, South Africa. Additionally, he directed the innovative 50-year master plan for the Australian War Memorial and conceptualized the landmark Ngurra Cultural Centre, which serves as a national resting place in the heart of Australia’s capital. A graduate of Harvard Graduate School of Design, Maitless has also contributed extensively to architecture and infrastructure publications, including Esquire magazine. He has taught architecture design and served on design juries at prestigious institutions like Harvard, SCI-Arc, and the University of Canberra. As Associate Professor of Practice in Urban Systems at the College of Engineering, Computer Science, and Cybernetics at the Australian National University, he is a prominent speaker at conferences addressing urban issues and serves on advisory bodies for regulatory entities in urban development.
