Dr. Noel Harding

Biography

Noel Harding has over 30 years of experience in accounting and auditing. He is a practitioner, researcher, and educator, and is a strong advocate for leveraging research to improve audit assurance practices. Currently, he serves as a member of the Academic Board for the Australian Government's Auditing Assurance Standards Board, contributing to international standard-setting advisory committees. His research is impactful, with numerous publications in leading international journals such as Accounting, Organizations and Society, Contemporary Accounting Research, and Auditing: A Journal of Practice & Theory. He frequently presents at national and international conferences, promoting collaboration between academia and practice. In addition to his current role at UNSW Sydney, Noel has held academic positions at Macquarie University, the University of Wisconsin - Madison, Fudan University, and the Shanghai University of Finance and Economics. His current research focuses on improving the quality of auditor judgments and decisions, particularly in the context of professional skepticism. He is supported by an ARC Discovery Grant and other industry-sponsored grants, and actively engages industry stakeholders to enhance audit practices, especially in response to the challenges posed by the Covid-19 pandemic.
