Biography

Noella Binda Niati is an Assistant Professor in the Faculty of Education and a Fellow in International Development at Jesus College, University of Cambridge. Her research focuses on nonformal educational spaces and how young people navigate and contest sociopolitical inequalities, particularly through the lens of Hip-Hop pedagogy and critical development discourses in West Central Africa. She employs mixed methods to examine themes of sociopolitical inequalities, epistemic disobedience, and the socio-cultural contexts of language and authenticity. Before her current role, Binda served as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at Humboldt University of Berlin, where she assessed the returns of education and the occupational aspirations of youth in Senegal. Her work has been published in various international peer-reviewed journals covering research methods, language education, and comparative international education. Binda's research has received funding from the German Research Foundation and the Fulbright Program. She is passionate about social activism, gender equality, and access to education in sub-Saharan Africa, and is committed to work that enables young people to lead social change using liberatory pedagogical practices.
