Nolan Williams, M.D., is a Professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at Stanford University and Director of the Stanford Brain Stimulation Lab. His research focuses on developing innovative technologies and therapeutics capable of modulating neural circuitry disrupted by mood disorders, OCD, and other neuropsychiatric conditions. Williams leads a team that develops neuroimaging-based approaches to target therapeutic delivery and predict treatment responses to therapeutic neuromodulation and psychedelics. He completed dual residencies in neurology and psychiatry at the Medical University of South Carolina and is triple board-certified in general neurology, general psychiatry, and behavioral neurology and neuropsychiatry. His laboratory has pioneered multiple novel therapeutic approaches in human neuroscience, including the Stanford Accelerated Intelligent Neuromodulation Therapy (SAINT), recognized for its rapid-acting interventions for treatment-resistant depression. The SAINT treatment has received FDA Breakthrough Device Designation and is now reimbursed for inpatient patients with severe depression.
