Dr. Norbert Ritter

Biography

Norbert Ritter is a full professor at the University of Hamburg, leading the Databases and Information Systems group in the Department of Informatics. He has an extensive academic background, having obtained an M.Sc. and a Ph.D. in Computer Science from the University of Kaiserslautern in 1991 and 1997, respectively. Since 2002, he has been part of the University of Hamburg, initially as an assistant professor and later as an associate professor before achieving his current professorship. His research interests center on database technologies, cloud data management, and information integration. He is particularly focused on advancements in NoSQL systems, federated database systems, and web-based information systems. Ritter has contributed significantly to the field through his publications, which address critical issues like information quality and scalable cloud data management. He also serves as the Dean of the Faculty of Mathematics, Informatics, and Natural Sciences since August 1, 2022, reflecting his leadership role in the academic community. Additionally, he is actively involved in various professional activities, including mentoring student research and overseeing dissertation projects. His research continues to influence both academic and practical applications in the field of computer science, contributing to the ongoing evolution of database systems in response to emerging technological challenges.
