Dr. Noriaki Ono

Biography

Dr. Noriaki Ono, originally from Tokyo, Japan, comes from a family lineage of dentists and orthodontists. He graduated summa cum laude from Tokyo Medical Dental University in 2003, earning his DDS degree. In 2007, he received his orthodontic certificate and PhD from Tokyo Medical Dental University and continued clinical fellowship in orthodontics for several years. Dr. Ono became a diplomate of the Japanese Board of Orthodontics in 2008. He completed his research fellowship at the Endocrine Unit of Massachusetts General Hospital and served as a part-time clinical instructor in the orthodontics program at Harvard School of Dental Medicine. He spent seven years at the University of Michigan School of Dentistry, starting as a tenure-track Assistant Professor and eventually becoming a tenured Associate Professor in Orthodontics and Pediatric Dentistry. In 2021, Dr. Ono joined the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston School of Dentistry as a Professor. His research focuses on the fundamental biology of skeletal stem cells, enhancing the understanding of the pathophysiology of dental and craniofacial skeletal deformities that affect millions of children and adults. His research has been supported by the National Institutes of Health since 2012.
