Dr. Norma Ojeda

Biography

Norma Ojeda is a Professor Emerita at San Diego State University, specializing in sociology and demography. With a Ph.D. in Sociology from the University of Texas at Austin, a Master's degree in Demography from El Colegio de Mexico, and a Bachelor's degree in Sociology from the National Autonomous University of Mexico, she has significantly contributed to the understanding of family, gender, and women's reproductive health. Ojeda's research primarily focuses on family dynamics, population studies, and reproductive health impacting Mexican women, particularly within the context of the U.S.-Mexico border. Over her distinguished career, she has published more than 60 works, including articles and book chapters in specialized journals across the United States, Mexico, Spain, Chile, and Venezuela. Her notable publications include titles such as 'Living Together Married' and 'Divorce Separation Mexico Onset New Millennium.' Prior to her tenure at SDSU, she held academic positions at UNAM and El Colegio de la Frontera Norte and has been actively involved in volunteer community organizations addressing reproductive health issues in both the United States and Mexico. Her primary goals at San Diego State University include strengthening sociology, family studies, population studies, and U.S.-Mexico cross-border demographics.
