Biography

Norman Zhou is a Professor and Canada Research Chair in Advanced Materials Joining Processing at the University of Waterloo. He is also cross-appointed in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering and is a member of the Waterloo Institute of Technology, the Centre for Bioengineering, and the Biotechnology Water Institute. As the Associate Director of the Centre for Advanced Materials Joining (CAMJ), he focuses on developing innovative technologies for material joining and processing, particularly within micro and nano-joining. His collaborative efforts with industry lead to substantial advancements in research and development while mentoring numerous students. Professor Zhou's research areas include advanced welding technologies, nanomaterials, laser processing, and applications in microelectronics and the medical field. He is a fellow of the Canadian Academy of Engineering, the American Welding Society, and ASM International, and has authored over 400 refereed journal papers and books, including titles like "Microjoining and Nanojoining" and "Joining and Assembly of Medical Materials and Devices." He has supervised 50 MASc and 30 PhD graduates and has been instrumental in training numerous postdoctoral fellows.
