Dr. Nrupen Bhavsar

Biography

Nrupen Bhavsar is an Associate Professor in the Department of Surgery and Biostatistics and Bioinformatics at Duke University. He is a quantitative epidemiologist with methodological expertise in the design and analysis of observational studies that utilize cohort data, registries, and electronic health records (EHR). His research focuses on the measurement and characterization of biomarkers, risk factors, and treatment outcomes for chronic diseases through real-world datasets. His primary research interests involve leveraging novel sources of data, particularly EHR, to conduct chronic disease research at the intersection of informatics, biostatistics, and epidemiology. Ongoing projects aim to integrate informatics and epidemiology to lessen the burden of chronic diseases. He has topical expertise in multiple chronic diseases, including oncology, cardiovascular disease, and chronic kidney disease. Additionally, Nrupen's research portfolio examines the impact of social determinants of health, dynamic neighborhood changes, and gentrification on health outcomes for adults and children.
