Biography

Professor Nuala McGrath is a NIHR Global Health Research Professor with 35 years of experience in HIV surveillance, treatment prevention studies, and intervention trials in sub-Saharan Africa (SSA). She holds a joint appointment in the Faculties of Medicine and Social Sciences. Her current research focuses on the development and evaluation of interventions aimed at improving couples’ health in both SSA and the UK. Professor McGrath has been involved in several significant research projects, including NIH-sponsored studies to maximize HIV prevention and retention among adolescent girls and young women. Her leadership roles include being a Fellow at the Africa Health Research Institute and Chair of the African Academy of Sciences. She has received accolades such as the NIHR Global Health Professorship in 2018 and has held honorary positions at University College London and the University of KwaZulu-Natal.
