Biography

Nughmana Mirza is a lecturer in Criminology at the University of Glasgow. She holds a PhD in Social Policy, an MRes in Social Research, and an MSc in Islamic Middle Eastern History from the University of Edinburgh. Her doctoral research focused on the experiences of South Asian women facing family abuse in Scotland, particularly within micro- and macro-level contexts of policy and practice. Her broader research interests include kinship patterns, transnational migration, and the criminal justice response to marginalized populations, specifically South Asian women. Prior to her academic career, Nughmana worked for the Scottish Government on issues related to forced marriage in Scotland, and was involved in a UK-wide project at the Nuffield Stirling University exploring child welfare inequalities. Her teaching encompasses postgraduate courses on Qualitative Research Methods and Gender Relations. She is an active member of various research groups and forums, including the Gender Based Violence Forum and the Centre for Research on Families and Relationships.
