Biography

Nuno Bimbo joined the University of Southampton in 2019 as an Associate Professor of Chemical Engineering. His research focuses on the applications of porous materials for energy conversion, storage, and gas separations. He is a Chartered Chemical Engineer and a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. Nuno graduated with an integrated Master's degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of Coimbra, Portugal, in 2009, and completed his PhD at the University of Bath in 2013, concentrating on modeling hydrogen storage in porous materials. After earning his PhD, he worked as a postdoctoral researcher on EPSRC-funded projects related to porous materials and hydrogen storage. In 2015, he was appointed to a Lectureship in Chemical Engineering at Lancaster University, where he contributed to IChemE accredited BEng/MEng programs, lectured in core modules, and supervised design and research projects. Nuno's teaching excellence was recognized with the Faculty of Science and Technology Dean’s Award for Early Career Teacher of the Year in 2018. His ongoing research includes the development and application of functionalized porous materials for gas storage and separation in energy applications, including fuel cells and advanced materials for hydrogen purification. He has played a significant role in supervising various undergraduate and postgraduate research projects and continues to innovate in the field of Chemical Engineering.
