Dr. Nupoor Ranade

Biography

Nupoor Ranade is an Assistant Professor in Rhetoric and Technical Communication at Dietrich College of Humanities and Social Sciences, Carnegie Mellon University. With interdisciplinary expertise spanning the humanities and engineering, her educational background has enabled her to address critical questions at the intersection of ethics, inclusion, and communication in the context of rapidly advancing technologies, particularly artificial intelligence. She completed her Ph.D. in Communication, Rhetoric, and Digital Media at North Carolina State University, where she also pursued a Digital Humanities certification. Ranade has engaged with industry partners such as SAS Institute and Citrix, while actively teaching and conducting research in academia. Her research focuses on the evolution of audience concepts from passive receivers of information to active participants in knowledge production, especially concerning AI-generated content and the needs of marginalized communities. Since 2019, she has published several articles in prestigious humanities journals, exploring AI research through a humanities lens. She has received collaborative grants aimed at incorporating humanistic perspectives into engineering education and has experience mentoring and supervising students across various humanities disciplines. Nupoor’s teaching and research cover Digital Rhetorics, User Experience, and Professional Writing, while she maintains a commitment to developing innovative curricula that reflect current standards in the field.
