Biography

Nurgül Özbek is a researcher at Uppsala University, with a focus on valuation studies and economic sociology. She works as part of the Leapfrog research team under the Division of Industrial Engineering Management. Her research primarily investigates how changes in market practices are shaped by various actors and how value judgements influence the outcomes of new products and services. Özbek's academic background includes a Master's degree in Environmental Economics Management from the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences and a Doctorate in Business Administration from the Stockholm School of Economics. She has significant experience as an industry practitioner spanning over a decade, which enriches her academic exploration of market studies. Her current projects include examining the valuation practices in medical devices and mapping market factors that affect the international expansion of retail businesses. Özbek's work incorporates an interdisciplinary approach, drawing from literature in science and technology studies to critically analyze the role of valuations in societal transitions in various sectors, especially in health care.
