Biography

Nuria Carton de Grammont is an art historian and curator specializing in contemporary Latin American and Latin Canadian art. Currently a part-time faculty member at Concordia University in Montreal, Canada, she has held two postdoctoral fellowships at the Centre for International Studies and Research, as well as the Department of Geography at the Université de Montréal. Carton de Grammont has coordinated the Research Network on Latin America (RÉAL) and has published articles in several Latin American art magazines including Artediseño, Oltreoceano, and Esse arts + opinions. She co-edited the book 'Politics, Culture, and Economy of Popular Practices in the Americas' published by Peter Lang in 2016. As a curator, she presented the 'Plantas Autofotosintéticas' exhibition by Gilberto Esparza at Galerie de l’UQAM in 2017 and co-directed the installation 'Objects Personnels/Personal Belongings' at the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts as part of the exhibition 'Connexions. Our Artistic Diversity Dialogue with Our Collections' in 2018-2019. She is currently the director of SBC Gallery of Contemporary Art in Montreal and teaches courses such as 'Special Topics: Art & Society' and 'Contemporary Latin American Art' at Concordia University.
