Biography

Nwamaka is a lecturer in Global Sustainable Development with 10 years of experience in development practice in coastal countries. She has extensive experience utilizing an interdisciplinary approach to research development issues impacting the well-being of coastal fishing communities, including climate change, fisheries mismanagement, poverty, hunger, and coastal malnutrition. Nwamaka has received local and international prizes for her contributions to coastal well-being across the African continent and was endorsed by the British Academy for Exceptional Promise in Development Studies in 2018. Her AXA-funded project aims to integrate wild capture fisheries with aquaculture to reduce hunger and enhance biodiversity; it has been endorsed by the Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission as part of the UN Ocean Decade. She is involved in a collaborative project with the African Research Impact Network, which seeks to advance discourses on climate change adaptation in developing countries. Nwamaka is also a CODESRIA Diaspora Visiting Fellow at Anchor University, Lagos State, Nigeria, and holds a Ph.D. in Development Studies and a postgraduate certificate in social science research methods from Newcastle University. Nwamaka previously joined the school from Leeds University.
