Dr. Octavia Dobre

Biography

Octavia Dobre is a full professor and Canada Research Chair Tier-1 at Memorial University of Newfoundland, where she joined the faculty in 2005. Her research interests encompass future wireless networks, optical underwater communications, and various integrated communication systems. Dobre has authored or co-authored over 600 internationally referred journal and conference papers across these areas. She has served as Vice President for Publications of the IEEE Communications Society (ComSoc) and is the inaugural Editor-in-Chief of the IEEE Open Journal of Communications Society. Additionally, she is a senior editor and guest editor for numerous prestigious journals. Dobre has held various leadership roles in major conferences and has contributed significantly to the IEEE community, including chairing the IEEE ComSoc Women in Communications Engineering (WICE) standing committee. Throughout her career, she has been recognized with various awards, including being named a Clarivate Highly Cited Researcher and receiving fellowships from multiple prestigious academies. Her commitment to education and mentorship is reflected in her accolades, including outstanding service awards and distinguished lecturer roles in IEEE.
