Dr. Octavio Ferraz

Biography

Professor Octavio Ferraz holds an LLB and MPhil in Law from the University of São Paulo, an MA in Medical Ethics & Law from King's College London, and a PhD in Law from University College London. Joining King's College London after serving as senior research officer for the UN Special Rapporteur on the right to health, Professor Paul Hunt, he has transitioned through various academic positions including Assistant and Associate Professor. Prior to his academic career, he practiced law in São Paulo, Brazil, focusing on corporate, public, and medical law for over a decade. Professor Ferraz's research is primarily in human rights law and development, especially examining the impact of law and courts on poverty, equality, and social justice. He adopts a comparative and transnational perspective, integrating political philosophy, economics, sociology, and political science in his interdisciplinary work. His teaching includes Public Law, Human Rights Law, and the Rule of Law.
