Biography

Oded Ghitza received his B.Sc., M.Sc., and Ph.D. degrees in Electrical Engineering from Tel-Aviv University, Israel, in 1975, 1977, and 1983, respectively. He served in the Signal Corps Research Laboratory of the Israeli Defense Forces from 1968 to 1984 and then became a Bantrell post-doctoral fellow at MIT in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Ghitza has held positions at the Speech Systems Technology Group at Lincoln Laboratory and the Acoustics Speech Research Department at Bell Laboratories, where his research focused on developing models of hearing and creating methods for speech recognition and coding evaluation. He worked at Sensimetrics Corp. in Malden, Massachusetts, and was involved with the Sensory Communication Group at MIT. Ghitza’s research includes studying the role of brain rhythms in speech perception and has contributed significantly to hearing-aid technology. Since December 2010, he has been a Research Professor in the Department of Biomedical Engineering at Boston University. He has also served as a visiting researcher at the Max Planck Institute for Empirical Aesthetics in Frankfurt, Germany, and as a visiting professor at the Poeppel Lab at the Ernst Strüngmann Institute.
