Biography

Oktay Gunluk is the Gary C. Butler Family Professor in the H. Milton Stewart School of Industrial and Systems Engineering at Georgia Tech. He received his Ph.D. and M.Phil. in Operations Research from Columbia University. Prior to joining Georgia Tech, he served on the faculty of the School of Operations Research and Information Engineering at Cornell University and was the manager of the Mathematical Optimization and Algorithms group at IBM Research. Gunluk has extensive experience in both industrial research and basic research in mathematical optimization and has worked on large-scale applied projects for internal and external clients. His main research interests lie in the theoretical and computational aspects of discrete optimization problems, particularly in integer programming. He focuses on cutting planes for mixed-integer sets and is currently developing integer programming-based methods for classification and clustering problems in machine learning as well as qubit assignment routing in quantum computers. He is also the Editor-in-Chief of the Informs Journal on Optimization. Gunluk has taught numerous optimization classes at the undergraduate level, covering topics such as linear, integer, and combinatorial optimization.
