Biography

Oktay Urcan studies archival financial accounting, focusing on the relevance of debt market accounting information, accounting disclosures, and macro accounting. In addition to his teaching at the Booth School of Business, Urcan is a professor of accountancy and holds the Fred & Virginia Roedgers Faculty Fellow position at the Gies College of Business, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He joined the University in 2014 as an assistant professor. Prior to this role, he spent seven years at the London Business School as a teaching assistant and five years at the University of Texas at Dallas. Urcan has been recognized multiple times on the List of Teachers Ranked Excellent at the University of Illinois and received the Raymond Hoffman Faculty Excellence Award in Accountancy in 2016. He earned a Bachelor’s degree in management from Bogazici University in 2002 and a PhD in accounting from the University of Texas at Dallas in 2007.
