Dr. Ola Wetterberg

Biography

Ola Wetterberg is a Professor and Chair in Conservation of Built Heritage at the University of Gothenburg. He serves as the Deputy Head of his department and has significant responsibilities in research. Wetterberg is also the Director of the Centre for Critical Heritage Studies and participates in the HERILAND project, which is a Marie Curie funded research school that focuses on heritage management with a critical landscape approach. His research primarily revolves around urban heritage and the evolving roles of church buildings in contemporary society, exploring questions of conservation and changing values. His teaching covers both bachelor's and master's levels, including a yearly course in the Theory and History of Conservation, which incorporates study trips to historical sites such as Rome. Wetterberg’s work also investigates the intersection of technological development and conservation practices, and he has published extensively on various aspects of heritage and its management.
