Biography

Olabisi Delebayo Akinkugbe is the Purdy Crawford Chair in Business Law and an Associate Professor at the Schulich School of Law, Dalhousie University. She obtained her PhD in Law from the University of Ottawa, her LL.M. from the University of Toronto, and her LL.B. from the University of Lagos, Nigeria. Before joining Dalhousie, she served as the Viscount Bennett Professor of Law at the same institution and convened the Viscount Bennett Roundtable on International Economic Law. In 2024, she will receive the Hannah Harold Barnett Excellence in Teaching Award. Her research intersects public international law, international economic law, human rights, law and development, and regional economic integration in Africa. She has held leadership positions in numerous international law journals and was appointed section editor for the American Journal of International Law in 2023. Professor Akinkugbe has also taught as a visiting professor in Canada, Brazil, and the United States, contributing to various initiatives related to international economic law within the African context. As an active member of several professional societies, she has co-founded Afronomicslaw.org, which focuses on international economic law in relation to Africa and the Global South. Her teaching includes Contracts, Judicial Rule-Making, and International Trade Law.
