Biography

Olaf Klungel is a Professor and Academic Director specializing in Pharmacoepidemiologic Methods at Utrecht University. As head of the division of Pharmacoepidemiology & Clinical Pharmacology, he has substantial expertise in the development, improvement, and evaluation of innovative methods in observational drug research. His extensive research contributions include over 350 peer-reviewed papers and reports, addressing significant findings such as the impact of genetic variants on the renin-angiotensin system regarding the risk of type 2 diabetes and myocardial infarction. His recent research indicates increased risks of autoimmune diseases related to the use of statins. In addition to his research, Klungel is actively involved in teaching pharmacoepidemiology and pharmacotherapy to medical pharmacy students.
