Biography

Olaf Schenk is a professor at the Institute of Computing at the Università della Svizzera italiana (USI), where he also serves as the director. He holds a position as an adjunct member at the Computer Systems Institute at USI. He graduated in Applied Mathematics from Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT), Germany, and completed his PhD in 2001 from the Department of Information Technology and Electrical Engineering at ETH Zurich. His research focuses on applied algorithms, computing, and software tools for high-performance scientific computing. He has received several accolades, including being elected as a Fellow of the Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics (SIAM) and serving as an associate editor for ACM Transactions on Mathematical Software. As a significant contributor to the field, he has chaired multiple top-level computer science conferences and has participated in 60 technical program committees. In the private sector, he is the Founder & Director of Panua Technologies Sagl, which creates customized high-end software solutions for large-scale prediction, simulation, optimization, and graph analytics. His research areas include multicore and manycore algorithms, computational science, and emerging high-performance computing architectures.
