Biography

Ole Thybo Thomsen is a Professor at the University of Bristol, where he also serves as Co-Director of the Bristol Composites Institute. He has a DSc and MSc from the University of Southampton and has previously held positions at Aalborg University, the European Space Agency, and the University of Delaware. His extensive appointment history includes serving as the European editor for Composites Part B: Engineering and as Chairman of the Innovation Fund Denmark. He is a Fellow of the Danish Academy of Technical Sciences, and in 2012, he was awarded a knighthood by Queen Margrethe II of Denmark. Professor Thomsen has authored over 120 papers and has led numerous research projects focusing on experimental and theoretical computational mechanics, particularly in the design and characterization of lightweight composite structures. His research has garnered more than £40M in funding, highlighting his significant contributions to both academia and industry in composite materials research.
