Biography

Ole Wæver is a distinguished Professor of International Relations at the University of Copenhagen. He completed his Ph.D. in Political Science in 1997, and has since concerned himself with the elaboration of security theory, notably the concept of 'securitization', which he helped to develop as part of the Copenhagen School of security studies. His research interests encompass various areas including international relations theory, security studies, climate change, and the sociology of science. Wæver's influential works include significant contributions to the study of conflicts, identity's role in foreign policy, and the intersections between religion and security. His academic involvement extends to authoring key texts and participating in high-level discussions and conferences related to his field. Additionally, he has received numerous accolades for his research, including election to the Royal Danish Academy of Sciences and Letters, and the Carlsberg Foundation’s humanities/social science research prize. Wæver has also been recognized with the Knight's Cross of the Order of Dannebrog and an honorary doctorate from the University of Turku.
