Biography

Oleg Shpyrko is a Professor and Department Chair in the Department of Physics at the University of California, San Diego. He obtained his Ph.D. from Harvard University in 2004. His research group specializes in studying nanoscale dynamics in materials through innovative x-ray, light, and neutron scattering techniques. His work is particularly focused on the development of new coherent x-ray scattering techniques to investigate the dynamics of various condensed matter systems, including electronic and magnetic phases, charge-, spin-, and orbital-ordered systems, as well as magnetic thin films and nanostructures. Additionally, he explores metal-insulator transitions in new high-temperature superconductors and the behavior of soft matter such as fluids, colloids, nanoparticles, long-chain polymers, and glasses under nanoscale confinement. He has contributed to several significant publications in high-impact journals, showcasing his findings on antiferromagnetic domain fluctuations and crystallization phenomena in liquid alloys.
