Dr. Olga Belogolova

Biography

Olga Belogolova is a Lecturer and Director of the Emerging Technologies Initiative at the Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS). She is also a Faculty Co-Lead for the Technology Innovation Focus Area. Her work primarily focuses on disinformation and influence operations in the digital age. Prior to her role at SAIS, Olga was the policy lead at Facebook/Meta, where she coordinated efforts to counter disinformation and managed the Trust and Safety team during a critical period of influence operations. Her background includes experience as a threat intelligence analyst at Facebook, where she tracked and disrupted coordinated influence operations, particularly those originating from Russia and Eastern Europe. Olga's academic credentials include a Master's degree in Strategic Studies from Johns Hopkins SAIS and a Bachelor's degree in Journalism and European Studies from Boston University. She has written for several prestigious publications, including The Atlantic and National Journal. As a fellow of the Truman National Security Project, her courses delve into how various actors, both state and non-state, exploit technology and misinformation to shape public perception and pursue strategic objectives.
