Dr. Oliver Broad

Biography

Oliver Broad is a Senior Research Fellow at the University College London Institute of Sustainable Resources. His work focuses on developing and using optimization modeling frameworks to support long-term energy planning. Broad's main interests lie in employing Whole Systems Approaches to assess future energy pathways and to analyze the implications of national, regional, and local energy policies. Key areas of research include renewables, residential and industrial heat decarbonization, biomass bioenergy, carbon capture storage, and low energy demand strategies. He is also keenly interested in the interconnected global nature of climate challenges, which has led him to conduct research in both domestic UK and international contexts, particularly within the Global South. Furthermore, Broad is aware of the inherently social nature of the energy-climate problem and is engaged in research that bridges modeling with social science.
