Biography

Professor Oliver Hahl currently serves as Associate Dean, Masters Programs Director, and Director of International Partnerships at the Tepper School of Business, Carnegie Mellon University. He joined the faculty at Tepper in 2014. His research interests focus on perceptions of authenticity, status, capability, and commitment under uncertainty in contexts defined by limited information. He applies insights from economic sociology to diverse contexts such as sports, behavioral health, private equity, art, luxury goods, and politics. Professor Hahl has served as the OBT Group Head of the Ph.D. Program from 2017 to 2024 and developed courses in BBA, MBA, and Executive Education programs, including courses on Strategy Innovation and Organizational Management. He holds a Ph.D. in Management from MIT's Sloan School of Management, an MBA from Yale's School of Management, and a BA in Economics from the Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania. Prior to returning to academia, he worked at ABB, Ltd. in locations including Switzerland and Brazil. He is fluent in Korean and Portuguese, and resides in Fox Chapel, PA with his wife and six children.
