Biography

Professor Hayden conducts research aimed at developing innovative in-vitro techniques for biomedical diagnostics. His interdisciplinary research draws from electronics, optics, microfluidics, and materials science, currently focusing on magnetic optical techniques for functional diagnostics of blood cells. He studied biochemistry at the University of Vienna and completed his doctorate there in 1999. Following a postdoctoral position at Harvard University and postdoctoral teaching qualification in Analytical Chemistry at the University of Vienna, he joined IBM Research Laboratory in Zürich in 2005. In 2007, he began researching organic electronic techniques for medical imaging and in-vitro diagnosis of blood cells at Siemens Corporate Technology. In 2017, he was appointed to the Heinz-Nixdorf-Chair of Biomedical Electronics at the Technical University of Munich.
