Prof. Oliver Lieleg's research focuses on biopolymers and bio-interfaces, studying the properties of naturally occurring biopolymer-based materials such as mucus, biofilm, and cartilage. He investigates their viscoelasticity, selective permeability, wetting resistance, and lubricity. Additionally, he develops biopolymer materials for biomedical and biotechnological applications, including contact lens coatings and construction materials additives. Prof. Lieleg studied physics at the Technical University of Munich (TUM), where he obtained his PhD degree in cellular biophysics in 2008. He completed a postdoctoral fellowship at Harvard University in 2009, conducting research at the FAS Center for Systems Biology. Subsequently, he worked as an instructor in the Department of Biological Engineering at MIT from 2010 to 2011. In 2011, Prof. Lieleg returned to TUM as a Professor of Biopolymer Materials in the Department of Materials Engineering.
