Olivette Genest had an exemplary trajectory in academia, having begun her career as a professor in the 1970s. A polyglot educated partly in Rome and Paris, she established numerous inter-university relationships in Canada and Europe. During her active years in the Faculty of Theology, she distinguished herself by the high quality of her teaching and the supervision offered to her graduate students. Her research work in exegesis and semiotics earned her national and international recognition, helping to establish the reputation of the Faculty of Theology. As part of the first generation of women admitted to university positions and graduates in theology—a discipline that developed over 20 centuries without the contribution of women—she gradually became engaged in the development of feminist studies. Beyond her teaching and research, Olivette participated in numerous national and international conferences and published a series of articles and several books addressing theological knowledge and the role of women in Catholic Church institutions and thought.
