Biography

Olivia Umurerwa Rutazibwa is a Belgian Rwandan International Relations scholar and journalist who holds a PhD in Political Science/International Relations from Ghent University (2013, Belgium). She completed her doctoral training program at the European University Institute (2001-2006, Italy) and has undertaken internships at the European Commission in Brussels and the EU Institute for Security Studies in Paris (2003-2004). Prior to joining the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE), she served as a Senior Lecturer in European International (Development) Studies at the University of Portsmouth (2013-2021, UK). Rutazibwa is an affiliated Research Fellow at the Johannesburg Institute of Advanced Studies (JIAS) in South Africa and is a member of the Critical Approaches to Political Science Lab at Yonsei University in Seoul, South Korea. Her research interests center around the comparative study of global (post)colonialisms, decolonizing international solidarity, and building methodologies that address epistemic Blackness. She has published in various academic journals and co-edited the Routledge Handbook of Postcolonial Politics. In addition to her academic work, she contributes as an Africa desk editor and journalist for MO* Magazine.
