Biography

Olivier Asselin is a professor at the Université de Montréal, focusing on the intersection of mobile platforms, augmented reality, and contemporary art within the context of media arts and cinema. He leads research initiatives in the interuniversity research group Mediatopias, exploring how mobile technologies shape narrative forms in physical spaces, emphasizing the integration of real-time mapping systems and augmented reality applications. In addition, Asselin is involved in the development of interactive fiction within augmented cinema, integrating advanced technologies to create immersive experiences. His research also includes revisiting theoretical frameworks surrounding storytelling, space, and media practices in relation to public institutions. Asselin collaborates with various interdisciplinary research groups, such as Menlo Park and Dômes, at the Institut Arts, cultures et technologies, striving to combine technology with artistic expression.
