Dr. Olivier Pertz

Biography

Olivier Pertz is the Executive Director and Group Leader of the Cellular Dynamics lab at the University of Bern, where he focuses on studying the spatio-temporal signaling dynamics that regulate cell morphogenesis and cell fate decisions. His research integrates various disciplines and aims to advance understanding of complex cellular behaviors and pathologies such as neurodegeneration and cancer. His main hypothesis suggests that crucial signaling events are highly dynamic and context-dependent, which traditional biochemical methods fail to capture effectively. To address this, the lab employs innovative techniques including genetically-encoded biosensors, microfabrication methods, and advanced computer vision for image analysis. By exploring Rho GTPase signaling and receptor tyrosine kinase pathways, Pertz's work contributes significant insights into stem cell manipulation and therapeutic interventions for nervous system diseases.
