Biography

Dr. Pierron joined Georgia Tech in the summer of 2007. Prior to this, he was a senior engineer at the R&D center of Qualcomm MEMS Technologies, Inc. in San Jose, California. His research focuses on mechanics of small-scale materials, including thin films, nanoscale coatings, and microscale components, with a strong emphasis on understanding degradation mechanisms such as fracture and fatigue. His contributions are crucial in assessing and improving the reliability of devices and systems fabricated using emerging technologies, including MEMS/NEMS and flexible electronics, with applications spanning energy, environment, and health security systems. Dr. Pierron actively engages students in investigating fundamental issues and developing novel experimental micro- and nano-mechanical testing techniques. His research is currently sponsored by the National Science Foundation, the Department of Energy, and NextFlex.
