Biography

Olivier Verscheure received his Ph.D. degree in Computer Science from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology, Lausanne (EPFL) in June 1999. In July 1999, he joined IBM T. J. Watson Research Center in New York as a member of the research staff and managed the Exploratory Stream Analytics research group from 2007 to 2010. In July 2010, he transferred to the newly established IBM Research lab in Ireland, playing a significant consulting role in the formation of the new lab and leading a technical management team of 40 people in analytics research and software engineering. In 2016, he became the Executive Director of the Swiss Data Science Center, a national R&D center hosted organizationally by EPFL and ETH Zurich, with a technical operational team distributed across various institutions. His current research interests encompass stream big data mining, geospatial analysis, large-scale data management, applied sectors of personalized health and medicine, Intelligent Transportation Systems, telecommunications, Smarter Buildings, Smart Grids, and Healthcare Waste Water Management. He has received IBM Outstanding Technical Achievement Awards, published nearly 100 research papers with a total of 2,400 citations in top international forums, and has been a regular invited speaker nationally and internationally, as well as having invented more than 40 international patents and chaired major international technical conferences in relevant research areas.
