Biography

Olivier J. Wouters is an Associate Professor at Brown University’s School of Public Health, in the Department of Health Services, Policy, Practice. He is also a visiting faculty member at Harvard Medical School in the Division of Pharmacoepidemiology and Pharmacoeconomics. Wouters previously served as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Health Policy at the London School of Economics. His research focuses on pharmaceutical economics policy, particularly drug pricing and access to medicines in high- and middle-income countries. He has published in leading journals, including Health Affairs, JAMA, Lancet, and the New England Journal of Medicine. In 2025, Wouters received the AcademyHealth's Publication-of-the-Year Award for his research on Medicare drug price negotiations. He is involved with the forthcoming Lancet Commission on Accelerating Progress on Essential Medicines. Wouters obtained his Ph.D. in Health Policy and M.Sc. in Health Economics from the London School of Economics, and his current work is supported by organizations such as Arnold Ventures and the Commonwealth Fund.
