Biography

Olle Sundström is an Associate Professor in the Section of Religious Studies and Theology at Umeå University. His research focuses on religious policy, religious conflict, and religious dialogue in Northern Eurasia. He has explored key themes such as Soviet attitudes and measures towards traditional worldviews and rituals, the indigenous peoples of the North, and the relations between Christianity and indigenous Sami religion in Scandinavia throughout history and in the present. In addition, Sundström has addressed fundamental theoretical questions within the study of religion, including critical issues related to source criticism and the formation of academic categories in religious studies. He has co-edited scientific anthologies and served as the editorial secretary for the multidisciplinary Journal of Northern Studies, published by Umeå University and the Royal Skyttean Society since 2007.
