Professor Dr. Olof Berglund

Biography

Olof Berglund is a senior lecturer at Lund University with a focus on Aquatic Ecology and Functional Ecology. His research interests encompass the environmental influences on contaminant transport and uptake, as well as the ecological effects of contaminants on populations, communities, and ecosystems. Currently, he investigates the fate and impacts of emerging contaminants, particularly pharmaceuticals and engineered nanoparticles, aiming to enhance scientific understanding of exposure predictions and ecological risk assessments. His research seeks to extrapolate the effects of contaminants at various ecological levels, from individual organisms to communities and ecosystems, facilitating improved risk management strategies. Berglund coordinates courses such as BIOR41 Ecotoxicology and BIOR52 Applied Ecotoxicology, where he educates students on the fundamentals of ecotoxicology, risk assessments, and the ecological implications of contaminants. He is actively involved in research related to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, contributing to global efforts to protect the environment and enhance human well-being.
