Biography

Olof Runborg is a Professor at KTH Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm, where he specializes in Numerical Analysis and Applied Mathematics. He earned his MSc in Electrical Engineering from KTH in 1992 and a BSc in Economics & Business Administration from Stockholm School of Economics in 1994. In 1998, he completed his PhD at KTH, focusing on Numerical Analysis. Runborg has held postdoctoral positions at Paris VI and Princeton University from 1999 to 2001. His research centers on the numerical treatment of partial differential equations, particularly addressing challenges in wave propagation problems. Key research interests include the Helmholtz equation, high-frequency waves, multiscale phenomena, numerical homogenization, and uncertainty quantification. He also investigates methods to reformulate complex equations to expedite solutions while maintaining accuracy. Runborg teaches courses on numerical algorithms for scientific problems and fundamental numerical methods at KTH.
