Dr. Olukorede Abiona

Biography

Olukorede Abiona joined Macquarie University as a Senior Research Fellow in February 2022. Prior to this role, he was a Research Fellow at the University of Technology Sydney and a lecturer at the University of Leicester in the United Kingdom. His research interests lie in applied economics, focusing specifically on human capital economics in developing countries. His work evaluates the impacts of policy intervention programs on improving human capital outcomes in health, education, and labor. He employs advanced econometric techniques to investigate causal pathways and evaluate interventions. Olukorede has broad experience linking administrative survey datasets, particularly in Australia, to assess the impacts of healthcare regulation and targeted intervention programs on mental health outcomes. He has contributed to numerous publications exploring the effects of economic shocks on household welfare in Sub-Saharan African countries and has ongoing projects aimed at designing intervention pathways that mitigate the impacts of extreme weather events on food security and birth weight. Furthermore, he has worked on projects related to aged care economic analysis aimed at enhancing aged care services in Australia. He is also interested in supervising PhD students in the areas of applied economics and human capital outcomes across health and labor sectors in Australia and developing countries.
