Biography

Oluwakemi Darkwa is a dermatologist and fellowship-trained dermatopathologist specializing in complex medical dermatology and rheumatologic skin disorders. She received her medical degree from the Mayo Clinic School of Medicine. Prior to joining the faculty, she completed her dermatology residency at the Mayo Clinic College of Medicine and a dermatopathology fellowship at the Wake Forest School of Medicine. Her clinical research interests focus on cutaneous diseases with systemic manifestations, including cutaneous lupus erythematosus, dermatomyositis, sarcoidosis, pyoderma gangrenosum, and hidradenitis suppurativa. Committed to increasing access to patient care and improving clinical outcomes, she is involved in clinical trials for dermatomyositis and cutaneous lupus erythematosus. She currently serves as the Director of the Hidradenitis Suppurativa Program at the University of Chicago. As a board-certified dermatopathologist, she provides comprehensive microscopic and molecular analysis of skin, hair, and nail disorders, with a special interest in the histopathologic diagnosis of challenging inflammatory skin diseases. Dr. Darkwa is equally dedicated to medical education and mentorship and serves as the Associate Program Director of the dermatopathology fellowship at the University of Chicago.
