Biography

M. Omair Ahmad is a Professor and a Tier Concordia Research Chair in Electrical and Computer Engineering at Concordia University. He received his B.Eng. degree from Sir George Williams University and his Ph.D. from Concordia University in 1978. Dr. Ahmad has been a faculty member at Concordia University since 1979, where he initially joined as an Assistant Professor in Computer Science and later transitioned to the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering. Dr. Ahmad's research interests span a wide array of topics including algorithms, architectures, signal processing, digital image processing, video signal processing, speech processing, and biomedical signal processing. He has published extensively in these areas and holds four patents related to his innovative work. Additionally, Dr. Ahmad has contributed to the academic community through various leadership roles including serving as an Associate Editor for the IEEE Transactions on Circuits and Systems and as the Chairman of the IEEE Circuits and Systems Chapter in Montreal. He has received numerous awards and honors including the Wighton Fellowship and the Award for Excellence in Doctoral Supervision from the Faculty of Engineering and Computer Science at Concordia University. Dr. Ahmad is a Fellow of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, reflecting his significant contributions to the field.
